Conversation with a fellow nerd

So I rarely post personal stuff here but as the nerd that i am I am willing to share this story. For those who know I work at a hotel and work the night shift. The time I get off is when sometimes a few early birds check out as we are changing shifts. Today as I was checking out a guest here is the conversation that went on between us.

Just finished checking guest out of system

Me: Ok sir you are fully checked out would you like a copy of your receipt?

Guest: No thanks we are in a world today where there is no need for paper.

Me: I understand. Would you like me to email a copy to you at least for your records?

Guest: Naw that will just waste space?

Me: Are you sure? Judging by the look of this copy it could be a maximum of around 500 characters so with each character being 1 byte each that is only 500 bytes being transmited.

Guest: Well even though that is true you are wrong. Each character is actually 1 or 2 bytes  depending on the type of binary and you forget about the spaces counts as bytes in the code. Also the amount of pixels that are wasted too. There are thousands of pixels wasted on the screen and when you print it out….

You can see where this conversation went. I love running into guest with computer knowledge. Can have some funny conversations such as this one.
